Abstract/Description: | After the caisson was damaged by dynamiting the hardpan the channel had to be dammed up and pumps were used to keep the area dry so crews could repair the damage. This section is 44 feet tall and has a diameter of 116 feet. The buoyant caisson was divided into eight water tight compartments. |
