Photograph showing a rare historic view looking westward toward the Soo Locks from the Hotel Iroquois, which burned in 1897, without the International Railroad Bridge in the scene. Work on the bridge had commenced, which dates the photo at 1887. Construction on the Poe Lock had also begun. Islands in the rapids appear in the image, which were removed when the third lock and fourth locks were built.
