A William A. Holmes & Son logging crew has just finished loading a narrow gauge railway car, probably somewhere east of the Michigamme River in the mid-1880s. William A. Holmes is standing fourth from the left in front of the carload of logs. Tom King, a Chippewa Indian who lived in and around Dickinson County for many years, is seated on the log, holding his hat against his leg with his left hand.
