Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Americo Cantarella moved to Detroit to work at the Piemonte grocery store. After he returned from his service in World War II he purchased the grocery store in 1946. He discusses Italian culture in Detroit and how the 1967 riots affected his business. His time in World War II and Italy are also discussed. Was known in his community as "Mr. Piemonte". His wife Assunta also speaks briefly. Interviewer is D. Rubello. |
