Gail Gadda oral history interview

Abstract/Description: Gail Gadda describes the life of her grandfather Joseph Wagner (1850-1925) and his wife Susan Dauffenbach Wagner (1860-1941). Joseph immigrated from Vienna and moved to Chicago, Illinois and then Mankato, Minnesota, where he met Susan who was working as a midwife for what is now the Mayo Clinic. The town of Wagner, Wisconsin is names after Joseph Wagner, who was the first white settler in the area. He also worked in saw mills in Wallace, Michigan. Gadda recounts several stories about her grandparents' early years in the Wagner area and talks about Susan's work as a midwife. It should be noted that Gadda appears to have some memory problems and frequently contradicts herself, so any names and dates given should be confirmed with other sources.
