Note(s): |
Sue began her relationship with The Women’s Center in the 1970s as a user of the center's services while she was a part-time student and mother attending Northern Michigan University. Sue describes how her life experiences and her career helped her to become the executive director of The Women’s Center during the 1990s. Additionally, she gives insight into the financial struggles the center faced during her time as executive director and the challenges she went through with the board members. She also discusses different programs and grants that helped The Women's Center to grow as an organization. In 1992, The Women's Center was subpoenaed by the Marquette County Circuit Court to turn over the confidential records of a rape victim. Sue discusses in detail how she and the board fought this subpoena for two years. Recorded at Jane Ryan’s home in Marquette, Michigan. |
