Carolyn came to Marquette, Michigan in the early 1960s as a school teacher. She was a part of the early consciousness-raising groups and worked at The Women's Center as a volunteer teaching goal setting and leading other workshop groups. Recorded at Jane Ryan's home in Marquette, Michigan. Carolyn McDonald discusses her works to protect women’s rights, the origin of the Marquette Women’s Center, the struggle against wearing mini-skirts as a waitress at Northland Hotel, what led her to consciousness-raising groups, a film project to argue women’s educational rights, a cleaner woman’s story, her involvement in and vision for the Women’s Center, a gender issue she faced in Washington D.C., passing petitions to allow abortion, personal talents, and training for managing the Women’s Center. |
